HOW TO SAVE MONEY WITH A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
An active, healthy lifestyle can be expensive – gym memberships, gym equipment, workout clothes, whole organic foods, specialty health foods. It’s only fair that we should somehow save money with a healthy lifestyle, right?
I suppose when you look at these stats, we do save money in the form of future medical bills.
- According to a 2009 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, people who exercise have a 70% lower risk of early death and a 56% lower risk of heart disease as compared to those who don’t exercise.
- According to a 2009 study in the International Journal of Sports Medicine, women who did high-intensity exercise have a 53% lower risk of all-cause mortality. Men reduce their risk by 35%.
- According to a 2015 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, physical activity is associated with a 55% lower risk of lung cancer and a 44% lower risk of colorectal cancer.
- Physically active people have a 34% lower risk of all-cause mortality, 50% lower risk of heart disease, and 22% decrease in cancer mortality compared to people who remain inactive.
But how about something a little more immediate. And monthly. As in I want to save X amount of dollars a month for choosing a healthy lifestyle.
Guess what? You can!
Health I.Q. is a company who saw these health stats and made it their goal to promote a healthy lifestyle through financial rewards.
Health I.Q. is a licensed life insurance agent in all 50 states and they feel that regardless of any disease or condition you may have, knowledge is extremely influential in preventing future health risks and hospitalizations.
Knowledge is king.
According to a 2016 study by Health IQ analyzing the health knowledge of over 1 million people, a well-rounded foundation of health knowledge is correlated to a 56% reduction in mortality risk for women and 57% reduction in men from age 30-89.
If you don’t know something benefits or hurts you, you likely are not going to take any actions for or against it. Just like I had no idea how beneficial red tea is for you. Or what foods can boost your metabolism. Plus, knowing those stats motivates me to do my 20-30 minute workouts.
Health I.Q. spent years gathering health knowledge data and presenting it to major life insurance companies. They convinced them to partner with Health I.Q. and offer lower life insurance rates and reward those who make learning and living a healthy, active lifestyle a priority.
I’ve always felt weird about insurance. It’s like paying rent on your life. Did I really need it? But when priorities change and you have a family with a mortgage, you’re really paying for security and safety for your loved ones. Because if something were to actually happen, you want your family well taken care of. So yeah, you kind-a need it.
Even though you’re doing everything right – exercising regularly and following your workout plans, meal planning and eating healthy, – you still need life insurance. Some things you just can’t control.
But why not save some money in the process. Especially since you’re working so hard to reduce your risk of health concerns.
We shop around on other monthly bills looking for ways to save money, life insurance is no exception.
Health I.Q. has a simple questionnaire that gets you started towards an accurate quote and saving money while living your healthy lifestyle. The agents and founder of Health I.Q. were all super nice and very helpful.
Why not save money with a healthy lifestyle? You could use that extra monthly money for new workout clothes!
ARE YOU TRACKING YOUR WORKOUTS AND MEALS?
Are you keeping a fitness journal? Research shows that by keeping a food and fitness journal, writing down your workouts and what you eat, you lose more weight and reach your goals quicker. Fitbook is an awesome journal that provides tips, motivation and plenty of space to reflect and document things that inspire you. I use this to help plan my workouts and my meals. I love the extra tips it offers. Oftentimes, I’m left thinking – That’s a good one. I’ll have to try that. There are actually a few journal options to choose from.
DO YOU HAVE LIFE INSURANCE?
