RESOURCES & TOOLS TO HELP YOU STAY STRONG & HEALTHY
I share with you a lot of resources that I use and love throughout my blog posts. To save time (because this is a busy life, right), I’ve compiled all the health and fitness tools and resources I recommend.
When it comes to staying strong and healthy, I like to try new things. Therefore, this recommendations list will change and grow when I discover new resources that I fall in love with.
NUTRITION & HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS
Plan to Eat is an online recipe organizer, meal planner and grocery list maker. There is so much this program can do that I wrote a post about it. Check out The Tool You Need To Simplify Meal Planning to learn all that this program offers you. Plan to Eat is super easy, super convenient, super frugal. You save time and money. You gain more time doing the things you love with your family – including making and eating a home cooked meal together.
A Portion Control Container System is a color-coded container system with a guide that will help determine what your portions of each food type need to be. I find this system much more manageable than counting calories. Following a portion control system tells you how much to eat of what food. Thus, creating nutritional balance by eating the right amounts of the right foods.
Bento Containers are great for lunches. You can get 15 of these three compartment containers with lids for about $16. Pack a main item and two sides into good sized compartments (18-8-8 oz). They are stackable making storing easy. You can microwave them or freeze them and even wash them in the dishwasher. (Put them on the top rack, though).
A Microwave Egg Cooker is so awesome for making little scrambled egg omelets. I whip up two scrambled egg omelets with ham and cheese (or any mix-ins) in about five minutes. This thing is the next best thing since sliced bread. I may be the last to know about this but who cares! It’s amazing. I can feed my girls a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner in minutes without the mess of the mixing bowl and frying pan. You can also use it to make breakfast egg sandwiches! Seriously, a busy mom’s DREAM!
All Recipes is the world’s largest food community. The website and magazine provides all sorts of recipes with five star ratings. It provides ratings and reviews from people just like you and me. This is nice because you can read whether others have modified the recipe at all and how it worked for them. I don’t know about you but I pay attention to recipe reviews and ratings. I figure the more people who have tried it and liked it, the safer it is.
Love With Food is a snack delivery program offering new and organic or all-natural snacks delivered right to your door every month. These snacks are unique, hard-to-find and vary based on seasonal themes. Forget about the same old snack found in the regular grocery store. But the really cool part is that for every box sold, Love With Food donates a meal to several food banks to help end child hunger. Is that not awesome? Get the convenience of healthy snacks delivered to you while helping a child in need!
Beachbody on Demand is an online streaming service of 1400 different workouts. These workouts are available when you are, wherever you are. No specific schedules to follow; just the workout you want when you want it. With so many different workouts, there is literally something for everyone – cardio, strength training, yoga, kickboxing, beginner, advanced, the time-crunched (that’s me!) and everything in between. Beachbody on Demand offers a free 30 day trial and discounted pricing for longer subscription terms. It’s pretty darn cheap, if I say so myself.
21 Day Fix is an awesome introductory program for those starting cardio and strength training. It’s also a solid program to come back to and incorporate into a regular fitness schedule. I will often go back to do the strength training videos (Upper Fix, Lower Fix and Dirty 30) because they are easy to follow and very effective workouts.
Fit2B is your online resource for core strengthening when you’ve had abdominal trauma. Trauma can mean diastasis recti, hernia, pubic symphysis dysfuntion, sciatica, scoliosis, chronic back pain and a history of abdominal surgery. For me, their expertise on diastasis recti has been incredibly helpful in improving my core strength, getting my pre-baby bell back as well as lessening my lower back pain. Fit2B provides a ton of workouts to strengthen your core without wrecking your progress. There is also a whole host of educational information about diastasis recti and other trauma.
Fitbook is a health and fitness journal. This is a 16-week journal that includes motivational quotes and health and fitness tips on every page. In this journal you will set goals, track your workouts and meals as well as show gratitude for yourself, your body and your life. There is space to journal and document things that inspire you. I schedule all my workouts and mark them in this super cute journal. I like the quotes and tips but especially like that you indicate something that you appreciate about your body and list things that you are grateful for. The Fitbook is great for empowerment and establishing a positive attitude. Plus, research shows that tracking progress helps get results!
Fitness Equipment: I have a list of fitness equipment that I feel is necessary for a solid home gym. You can see the entire list at Equipment You Actually Need. A few things that make the list are:
- a fitness timer
- a kettlebell (this adjustable kettlebell is wonderful for changing out weight amounts for different exercises)
- Kettlebell wrist guards
- a stability ball
- a medicine ball
- a good set of weights
