When I became a mother to 3 under 3 (all daughters), I struggled to find time to exercise. It wasn’t until I started to hurt due to lack of exercise that I finally decided this needed to change. I needed to make time to exercise; to feel healthy and strong again.
Besides having a body that ached, the fact that I wasn’t exercising bothered me. I grew up exercising. I was a competitive club gymnast for 11 years. I trained 6 days a week for 4 hours. I trained for 3 years to earn a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was training to be a kickboxing instructor. I’ve been active all my life. So when I stopped exercising, I missed it. I missed the stress relief, how my body felt and how much fun I had.
I had three C-sections in three years and thought it best to let my body heal. But I lost a lot of my strength and endurance in the process. Chasing after and lifting toddlers wasn’t going to cut it.
I started slow and began to build myself up again. Since I have a real passion for kickboxing, I started designing short but effective kickboxing workouts. My time is limited, so I needed to keep my workouts short. About 20 – 30 minutes short. Which is why I also started designing workouts using the Tabata training method. Perfect workouts for those with time limitations.
As I became stronger, I added programs offered by Beachbody. I started with the 21 Day Fix because it would still ease me back into cardio and strength training and the workouts were only 30 minutes long. And when time was really limited, I would do a workout from Tony Horton’s 10 Minute Trainer.
I also realized I needed to get my nutrition in check. I wasn’t a single twenty-something anymore that could eat all the candy I wanted. (I recommend staying away from sugar. I am so paying for it with a lot of dental work.) I have three little girls to feed. I want to teach them healthy food choices and help them grow strong self-images. Which means I need to teach by example. My girls are big time accountability partners because they watch me like a hawk. I can’t eat anything without them seeing and wanting it.
A workout buddy helps you stay the course. Makes you accountable. It’s harder to skip a workout when someone else is depending on you. It’s also more fun to share workouts tips, stories, recipes and encouragement with a friend. This is why you are perfect.
I want to share with you my passion for health and fitness. It thrills me to motivate, inspire and help others meet their health and fitness goals and in return makes me work that much harder to meet mine.
